For the love of books and community in the heart of Michigan
Woo-hoo! Ballyhoo Opens Sat. August 29!
(Can you believe it?)
What a wild ride this has been! It seems an eon has passed since the seemingly crazy seed idea was planted on January 24, 2020, by John and Dawn Hall of Treasures Resale Shop (my amazing retail space partners and co-conspirators) that I consider doing more than rent a small booth-space from them to sell some of my own books. While owning and managing a bookstore was something I had often fantasized about (what true-blue bibliophile hasn't?), it was not at all the direction I thought I was heading at the time. But here we are...and I'm over the moon happy to have had the opportunity to take yet another creative leap in my vocational life.
The storefront opens at 111 W. Superior St. in downtown Alma this coming Sat. August 29 - we'll be open for the day from 10 am - 9 pm. Because of the COVID-19 state-mandated necessary restrictions on retail business, we are postponing any sort of “grand opening” celebration gathering until some future time when it's safer for us to gather for a shin-dig. But until then - we will be open seven days a week (see hours below) under the following guidelines:
1. A ten (10) person maximum will be allowed in-store at any one time
2. Face masks are required
3. Hand sanitizer will be available and appropriate social distancing will be practiced.
Due to these restrictions, we request that everyone be mindful of others and practice patience as we try to navigate a much-anticipated new store opening under these circumstances. We will have generous business hours so there will hopefully be ample time for you to visit the store during our opening.
Ballyhoo Books Store Hours
Monday-Thursday 10 am - 8 pm
Friday-Saturday 10 am - 9 pm
Sunday 12 pm - 5 pm
We look forward to seeing you soon!
About this email newsletter...
If you're receiving this inaugural newsletter, it's for one of two reasons:
1. You signed up to receive it 2. Your email is in my address book...in which case I ask you to hear me out...
I have learned that email outreach continues to be one of the most effective ways to market a business venture. And one of the best ways to start building your email list is to reach out to family and friends and ask for their assistance in passing the word. So that's what I'm doing here, folks - asking for your help in spreading the word even further about Ballyhoo Books. Opting out is easy - simply hit the unsubscribe option at the bottom of the page. But before you do so, I ask you to consider if you know someone else who may be interested in hearing from us...and if so, please forward our email to them. And I ask the same of all of you who plan to stay subscribers (thank you so much!) - please share this and future emails far and wide. Encourage others to subscribe!
We want very much for Ballyhoo Books to become an enduring presence in this community and region. We all know the value of this enterprise - a business that seeks to serve and build community. In this fear-filled and fractured time we live in, it seems even more essential.
I thank you in advance for your help and support.
And if you're unable to visit our new store in person, we continue to be ever so grateful to be able to sell books online through Bookshop.org. Ballyhoo Books receives a 30% commission on each book sold through our Bookshop.org page, and 10% of the revenue from all book sales through Bookshop.org is distributed between participating booksellers – like us!
