For the love of books and community in the heart of Michigan
"The wisdom of literature is quite antithetical to having opinions… Furnishing opinions, even correct opinions — whenever asked — cheapens what novelists and poets do best, which is to sponsor reflectiveness, to pursue complexity." ~ Susan Sontag
The learning continues...
Managing a small retail business in the midst of a pandemic is crazy complicated...much more so than we anticipated (we must humbly admit).
We want more than anything for our staff and customers to be safe, but operating entirely on an appointment-only basis (while being staff-reduced) has grown too unwieldy for us to manage well. So beginning Saturday, January 16 we're re-opening the storefront with a reduced maximum customer limit to see how that works for us. We will, of course, maintain our strict observance of COVID-19 safety protocols - face masks, proper social distancing, and hand "goop" application at the entry are still required. We will also continue to offer curbside service when needed. And for those customers more comfortable with the appointment-only option for in-store shopping, we will be reserving the hours of 6-8pm for appointment-only shopping. Appointments must be made at least 24-hour's in advance.
Our regular store hours will continue to be (until this plague is over...or heaven forbid disintegrates further) Monday-Saturday 10am - 6pm.
MLK Day Virtual Poetry Slam!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 18 from 7-9pm. More info about the event can be found on the Alma College website. Sign up to participate or attend here.

Please know that we're sorry about this, but...
We'll be back in touch soon with news about upcoming virtual events of our own here at Ballyhoo Books - there's a rumor of a cool book group being planned :)
Our customers are so wonderful...have we told you that enough? Please do continue telling your friends and family about us - nothing beats good old 'word of mouth' promotion! And do let us know how we're doing by leaving us a Google review or sending us a note through our comment page on our website. We love to hear from you!
As always, we are ever so grateful to be able to sell books online through Bookshop.org. Ballyhoo Books receives a 30% commission on each book sold through our Bookshop.org page, and 10% of the revenue from all book sales through Bookshop.org is distributed between participating booksellers– like us!
